Churdhar is the dividing ridge between Shimla and Sirmaur districts in South East Himachal Pradesh. Sarahan is at a distance of 120 kms from Shimla. Chopal is the only nearest town on this trek. Night halt can take place on the ridge or at temple Sarai. The trek is 26 kms to and fro and takes two days. You will be accompanied by a panoramic view of the Himalayan Mountains and the valley.

This two-day trek has mesmerizing views and trendy cafes on the hilltop. There are also hot water springs at Kheerganga and Bholenath Temple. It is recommended to go during summer or spring to avoid landslides.

This trek is a must if you are planning to visit Himachal Pradesh. Do pay a visit to the ancient Beas Kund, the birthplace of the Beas River. The majestic river flows through Bakarthach, Dundi, Solang, Manali, and many other regions. If you start your trek from Dundi, which is approximately 19 kms away from Manali you come across the Beas Kund Bridge. It has an overlooking view of the magnificent valley. Towards the north, you can trek up to Bakarthach and eventually reach Beas Kund and get a panoramic view of Pir Panjal.

This is a perfect alternative for those who are looking for short-distance treks. Bhrigu Lake is approximately 16 kms away from Manali under Bhrigu Peak. The key elements in this trek are the snow-clad Pin Parvati peak and the lake between the mountain ridge above the tree line.

This is yet another mind-blowing trek in Himachal. McLeodganj is 10 kms away from Dharamshala, which is the district headquarters of the northern Himalayan district of Kangra. This suburb is also known as ‘Little Lhasa’. Refugees from Tibet reside here which makes the region predominantly Buddhist. This is also a 20 km trek which takes 2 days. Filled with monasteries and nature, this trek provides a majestic view of the Kangra Valley. Trekkers can enjoy activities like skiing and stargazing during this magical journey.

Bir - Billing Trek

This trek will take you into a spiritual realm. The world’s second-highest paragliding place is here! Bir is located 70 kms away south of Dharamshala. This rural village has Tibetan buildings, monasteries, and infrastructure. The aesthetic of Bir in summer and autumn is yellow, green vast fields with grey clouds surrounded by monumental Himalayas. The distance between Bir and Billing is not more than 15 kms which makes it a short and sweet one-day hike.

There are almost 270 trek trails in Himachal both short and long distances. Other treks which deserve a mention are Kalatop - Khajjiar Trek, Dalhousie - Kalatop Trek, Uttarala - Jalsu Trek. To visit the forts in Himachal, a trek can be planned starting from Shimla by road. En route, you can plan to climb up to Bahadurpur, Ratanpur, Malaun, Chamba, Mundkhar, and Satgarh forts. These forts are partially ruined but they still have some good carvings, idols, and other artifacts as in Ratanpur Fort where there are artistic items.
